Tips for naming your dog

His looks
Spot, Tiny, or Blackie are all tried and true dog names. The upside is they're descriptive, making it easier to identify your dog if she gets lost. The downside is there are a lot of other dogs with those names. You might want to be more creative so your dog stands out from the crowd.
His special traits
If the two of you will be hunting or fishing together, you might go with the name Pal or Amigo. If your dog is smart, names such as Professor, Einstein or Newton are perfect for him.

Your favourite books, TV shows, movies, etc
Lots of dogs are named Lassie in honor of the Collie of literary, film, and television fame. But you don't have to name your pet after another dog in a movie or TV show. Pick the name of any one of your favorite characters for your dog. If you are a fan of the movie Harry Potter, Harry, Ron, Hagrid are names you can consider.

Human Names
Human names are an increasingly popular option, but make sure you aren't offending any of your living relitives with the same name! Some people might be thrilled to share the same name but others may be quite offended.
Not Too Many Syllables
Names with strong consonants and few syllables are recommended for getting a dogs attention. The letter S, as in Sparky or Spot works particularly well. Ideally, a pet's name should have only two syllables; Oliver, Ginger, and Brandy are good examples.
Helpful hints!
Avoid names that rhyme with the word no, sit, stay, fetch, etc such as Mo, Clay, or Pitt. You don't want to confuse your pup when you're training her. Avoid long or difficult names. Finally, make sure the name is one you won't be embarrassed to call out in front of the neighbors.
